Tongsten Cup

The School Tournament, organized under the prestigious Tongtsen Cup banner, is an Under-15 football championship for both boys and girls and serves as one of the flagship initiatives of the Tibetan National Sports Association (TNSA) in promoting grassroots football development. More than just a competition, the tournament represents a significant milestone in TNSA's long-term vision of identifying, nurturing, and developing talented young footballers from Tibetan schools across India. By providing a structured and competitive environment, the Tongtsen Cup encourages students to develop their technical abilities, teamwork, discipline, leadership, and passion for the sport from an early age.

The inaugural edition of the Tongtsen Cup was successfully held at the Upper TCV Football Ground, bringing together some of the finest young football talents from various Tibetan schools. The tournament was conducted over several days and featured an exciting schedule of group-stage matches, followed by highly competitive semi-finals and championship finals. The event showcased impressive skill, determination, and sportsmanship among all participating teams. In the boys' division, Sambhota Tibetan School (STS) Dholanji emerged as the tournament champions after an outstanding campaign, while TCV Gopalpur secured the runners-up position following a commendable performance throughout the competition. In the girls' division, TCV Suja displayed exceptional teamwork and footballing excellence to lift the championship trophy.

To enhance the experience for players, coaches, parents, and supporters, all tournament matches were broadcast live on the TNSA Dharamsala YouTube channel. This initiative provided young athletes with the opportunity to compete on a platform similar to professional sporting events while allowing families, alumni, and football enthusiasts from around the world to follow and support the tournament. The live broadcasts also increased the visibility of emerging Tibetan football talent and promoted greater interest in youth football within the community.

Beyond football, the Tongtsen Cup places equal importance on the holistic development of its participants. As part of the tournament program, TNSA organized a range of educational and awareness activities, including a Women Empowerment Workshop, aimed at inspiring young athletes and promoting values such as gender equality, confidence, leadership, and mutual respect. These sessions reinforced the belief that sport is not only about winning matches but also about building character, developing life skills, and creating socially responsible individuals.

The Tongtsen Cup forms a vital component of TNSA's long-term grassroots football development strategy. By providing school-age athletes with a high-quality competitive platform, the tournament serves as a talent identification pathway for future regional and national Tibetan football teams. It encourages schools to invest more actively in sports development while motivating young players to pursue football with greater dedication and commitment. Through consistent competition, professional exposure, and developmental opportunities, the Tongtsen Cup aims to strengthen the foundation of Tibetan football and cultivate the next generation of talented players who will proudly represent the Tibetan community at higher levels of competition.
