The Gyalyum Chenmo Memorial Gold Cup (GCMGC) is the most prestigious football tournament in the Tibetan diaspora community. Named in honor of the Great Mother (Gyalyum Chenmo), the tournament has been a cornerstone of Tibetan sports culture for over three decades, bringing together teams from settlements across India, Nepal, and beyond.
The GCMGC is organized annually by the Tibetan National Sports Association (TNSA) and typically features 16 teams divided into four groups, competing through group stages, quarter-finals, semi-finals, and a grand final over approximately 10 days of intense competition.
The historic 30th edition was held at Upper TCV grounds, where DYSA Mundgod was crowned champions after defeating TDL Bylakuppe in a thrilling final. The tournament drew large crowds, with all matches broadcast live on the TNSA YouTube channel.
Beyond the competition itself, the GCMGC serves as a unifying event for the Tibetan community. It is the primary stage for scouting talent for the Tibetan National Football Team, with standout performers shortlisted for international competitions such as the CONIFA Asia Cup.
The tournament has also become a platform for cultural initiatives, including the launch of the Tibetan Football Terms Book and new national team jerseys. TNSA continues to introduce eco-friendly practices, such as water refill stations, to promote sustainability at the event.
