TNSA INTRODUCES FOOTBALL CLUBS IN TIBETAN SCHOOLS IN EXILE
“Football is an honest game. It's true to life. It's a game about sharing. Football is a team game. So is life.”
Today football is emerging as one of the most popular and demanding sports in the world. The popularity of the sport has not only brought fame and money for individuals, but also help in bridging the cultural and political divide by bringing different nations together through true sporting spirit and camaraderie. For many, football also offers a platform to showcase their identity. As refugees, we believe football can take us closer to our goal through our players’ interaction with different nationals which would in turn help us in disseminating information about our culture and identity on a global level. With the fast-paced changes in science and technology, the sport has advanced to using latest scientific techniques in training, equipment, diet, ground, controlling of climatic condition, strategy and game planning.
TNSA has always felt the urgent need to take the sport to the next level by introducing school level club from the grass root level. We have realized the importance of having such system in the schools so as to enable us to induct quality players for the national team in future. Our past experiences tells us that the major differences between our players and other foreign players lies in the difference in the training period .Most of the foreign players receive their training of the basic techniques early in their lives whereas we do not have such systems with us so far for many reasons. Therefore, keeping the importance and urgency of the matter in mind, we have endeavored to introduce and employ catch-them-young strategy to train our budding players in their formative years, as it becomes difficult to adopt and train new tricks once they are older.
With cooperation of TCV Head Office, Department of Education - CTA, Central Tibetan School Administration – New Delhi, Tibetan Homes Foundation and Sambota Tibetan School Administration, we have so far successfully introduced Under-12 Football Clubs in 14 different Tibetan Schools that has class X level. These clubs will undergo training for six years with the support money TNSA offers. Therefore, any Tibetan schools willing to form such clubs in their respective schools that fulfills the terms and conditions of TNSA will receive a sum of Rs.10, 000 (ten thousand) every year towards running the club.
